Leadership Development

Two Day High Impact

The title “Leader” does not make you a leader. That title is earned. You have a choice. You can join the ranks of the hopeless, uninspiring and useless leaders we see almost everywhere - or you can become someone that counts. Someone that changes worlds. Someone who makes a difference. That change starts with you.

For over 30 years I have studied what great leadership looks like – from business, culture, sport, exploration and the military. Over two days in the heart of the Lake District I will share this knowledge with you. While other people run to online courses, theoretical scholars or workshops in dreary hotels, I will take you into the outdoors to provide learning and experience that will last for a lifetime.

Plutarch said that “the mind is not a vessel to be filled, but a fire to be kindled.” That idea sits at the heart of this experience. In the outdoors, stripped of the usual distractions, learning becomes clearer, more memorable. The splash of cold water on the face is no longer a metaphor - it is probably the River Esk.

Over the two days, we will explore three main themes:

  • What Leaders Are

  • What Leaders Know

  • What Leaders Do

By the end of the programme, your Moleskine notebook will look gloriously battered — full of scribbled ideas, hard truths and practical insights you’ll actually use when you return to the real world. You will stare at that notebook on your desk and smile.

You will be energised. You will feel confident. What happens next is entirely up to you.

High Performing Teams

Two Day High Impact

High-performing teams do not happen by accident.

They are built deliberately—through clarity, standards, trust, communication, and leadership behaviours that create momentum rather than friction.

Too many organisations focus purely on process, structure, and performance metrics while ignoring the hidden force that shapes results every single day: culture.

Culture is not beanbags, mission statements, or posters on the wall.

Culture is how people behave when nobody is watching. It is how decisions get made, how conflict gets handled, how leaders communicate, and whether people arrive on a Sunday night looking forward to Monday—or dreading it.

This highly practical two day course explores what separates average teams from exceptional ones and gives leaders a practical playbook for building environments where people perform at their best.

Participants will leave with practical ideas they can implement immediately to improve trust, accountability, communication, motivation, and team performance.

Structure

You will arrive at the hostel - style accommodation the afternoon / evening before the course begins. You are likely to be sharing a room but clearly we will try to make it with someone you know. We may well be on the mountain the second night (unless the weather is cataclysmic).  There will be a course briefing no later than 19:00 which will explain in detail the structure of the course. After the briefing you can socialise or sit in your room and daydream (that's what I would do) or go for walk in the valley.  Day one will commence at 0800 the next morning. The course will finish no later than 16:00 on day two.

Food/ Equipment

Before the course I'll send a kit-list out and if there is anything you don't have I will magic it up in your size. It might even be better than mine. It'll definitely be newer.

In terms of food we will be foraging from the landscape. Only joking. The accommodation will give us options to cook or you may wish to take advantage of the local hostelries. I am not your dad but I generally ask people to stick to a two-drink rule in the evening. In terms of food during the days I will provide a list of suggestions.
